Render Painting & Coating in Gwynedd
Breathable masonry coatings and full-system paint applications over existing render.
Gwynedd property owners come to us for render painting & coating for one of two reasons: something has failed, or the house looks tired.
The prevailing picture in Gwynedd is slate and stone cottages, quarry housing and exposed coastal properties. That means extreme driving rain on slate and stone construction comes up more here than almost anywhere else. Gwynedd sits in a part of the UK that gets among the highest rainfall in the UK with severe exposure — worth factoring into any render decision.
Local factor. Snowdonia records some of the highest rainfall in britain, and any non-breathable render on stone here will trap water within a single winter.
Is render painting & coating right for a Gwynedd property?
Choose painting when the render is structurally sound and you want a colour change or refresh without the cost of a full re-render.
That decision gets made at the survey, not on the phone. We will tell you plainly if a different system would serve the building better — including when a cheaper one would.

FAQs
Render Painting & Coating in Gwynedd — questions
Will you need scaffolding?
For anything above single storey, yes — it is safer and produces a better finish than working off ladders or towers. Scaffold is included and itemised in the quote.
How long before I can paint new render?
Through-coloured systems need no painting at all. Sand and cement should cure for around 28 days before masonry paint goes anywhere near it.
Do you take a deposit?
For most domestic jobs we take a deposit to cover materials and scaffold, with the balance on completion. Terms are set out clearly in the written quote.
Can you match my existing render?
Usually, yes. We colour and texture match as closely as we can, though weathered render never matches a fresh batch exactly — we will be honest about how visible a patch will be.
What paint should be used on render?
A breathable coating — silicone-based or mineral silicate. Avoid heavy plastic-based masonry paints, especially on solid walls, as they trap moisture.
Why is my masonry paint peeling?
Almost always trapped moisture behind a non-breathable coating, or paint applied over a chalky, unstabilised surface without a primer.
