Acrylic Render
Tough, flexible acrylic thin-coat render with excellent colour retention and impact resistance.
Acrylic render uses an acrylic polymer binder rather than silicone or mineral cement. The result is a noticeably tougher, more flexible film — it takes knocks well and holds its colour under UV, which makes it a sensible pick for ground-floor elevations, communal areas and anywhere the wall gets handled.
The trade-off is breathability. Acrylic is less vapour-permeable than silicone or mineral render, so it is not the right choice on a solid-wall or lime-built property where moisture needs a route out. On cavity-wall construction, insulated systems and board substrates, where the wall does not rely on evaporating through the render, that lower permeability is a non-issue and you get the durability benefit for free.
When it is the right choice. Choose acrylic where impact resistance and colour retention matter more than maximum breathability — cavity walls, boards and EWI rather than solid stone.

Acrylic Render — your questions
Is acrylic render better than silicone?
Neither is universally better. Acrylic is tougher and holds colour slightly better; silicone is more breathable and self-cleaning. Substrate type usually decides it.
Can acrylic render be used on old solid walls?
We generally advise against it. Solid walls need to breathe, and acrylic's lower vapour permeability can trap moisture. Silicone or lime is the better route there.
Does acrylic render fade?
Very little. Acrylic binders are UV-stable and hold pigment well — fading is normally only noticeable on very deep or bright colours after many years.
How thick is acrylic render?
The decorative topcoat is 1.5mm or 2mm depending on grain size, applied over a reinforced basecoat of around 6mm.
Can you match my existing render?
Usually, yes. We colour and texture match as closely as we can, though weathered render never matches a fresh batch exactly — we will be honest about how visible a patch will be.
How long does a rendering job take?
A typical three-bedroom semi is usually one to two weeks on site including scaffold, preparation, application and finishing. Weather, wall condition and the system chosen all move that.
Do I need planning permission to render my house?
Usually not on a standard house, but you will if the property is listed, in a conservation area, or if rendering would significantly change its appearance. We flag it at survey.
