Through-Colour Render
Pigmented render where the colour runs the full depth of the coat — no painting, no repainting.
Through-colour simply means the pigment is blended into the render itself rather than applied afterwards as paint. It is the single biggest maintenance difference between a modern render and a traditional one: painted render needs recoating every five to eight years, through-coloured render does not.
The practical benefit shows up in damage. When something catches a painted wall you see grey render under the colour, and the repair is obvious. Through-coloured render is the same colour all the way down, so knocks and scuffs weather in rather than standing out. We always mix from a single batch per elevation and produce a sample panel on site before committing, because screen and brochure colours never quite match the real thing on a large wall in daylight.
When it is the right choice. Choose through-colour anywhere you want to eliminate the repainting cycle — which on most houses is the largest long-term cost of rendering.

Through-Colour Render — your questions
Does through-colour render ever need repainting?
No, not as maintenance. It can be overpainted later if you want a colour change, but it does not require decoration to stay weatherproof.
Can I get any colour?
Effectively yes — most systems offer 400+ shades plus RAL matching. Very dark colours absorb more heat and can put extra thermal stress on the wall, so we advise on those case by case.
Will the colour fade?
Modern pigments are UV-stable and fading is minimal. Deep reds, blues and blacks are the most susceptible over long periods.
Can you match my existing render colour?
Usually. We take a sample and colour-match, though weathered render is rarely an exact match to a fresh batch — blending on a full elevation gives the best result.
Do I need planning permission to render my house?
Usually not on a standard house, but you will if the property is listed, in a conservation area, or if rendering would significantly change its appearance. We flag it at survey.
Will you need scaffolding?
For anything above single storey, yes — it is safer and produces a better finish than working off ladders or towers. Scaffold is included and itemised in the quote.
How long before I can paint new render?
Through-coloured systems need no painting at all. Sand and cement should cure for around 28 days before masonry paint goes anywhere near it.
