Silicone Render

Breathable, self-cleaning silicone thin-coat render in a through-colour finish that never needs painting.

Silicone render is the current benchmark for domestic rendering in the UK. It combines a flexible polymer-modified basecoat with a silicone-bound topcoat, giving you a wall that sheds water on contact but still lets trapped moisture escape from the substrate. That combination is why silicone has largely replaced sand and cement on solid-wall and insulated properties — it moves with the building instead of cracking against it.

The finish is through-coloured, so the pigment runs the full depth of the topcoat rather than sitting on the surface as paint. Chips and scuffs don't show a different colour underneath, and there is no repainting cycle to budget for. The hydrophobic surface causes rainwater to bead and run off, carrying dirt with it, which keeps north-facing and shaded elevations noticeably cleaner than mineral or acrylic alternatives.

When it is the right choice. Choose silicone where you want a low-maintenance, breathable finish on a solid-wall or insulated property and you don't want to repaint every five to seven years.

FAQs

Silicone Render — your questions

How long does silicone render last?

A correctly installed silicone system carries a typical 25-year warranty and commonly performs well beyond that. Because the colour is integral rather than painted on, it ages by weathering evenly rather than by peeling.

Does silicone render need painting?

No. The pigment is mixed through the topcoat. Painting it would actually reduce the breathability and self-cleaning behaviour you paid for.

Can silicone render be applied over old render?

Often yes, provided the existing render is sound, well-bonded and free of damp. We hammer-test and pull-test the substrate first — anything hollow or blown has to come off.

Is silicone render breathable?

Yes, highly. It has a low water-vapour resistance, which is what makes it suitable for solid-wall, stone and lime-built properties where trapped moisture is the main risk.

Are you insured?

Yes — full public liability cover, and we can send the certificate before we start. We are happy to provide RAMS for commercial and contractor work.

What areas do you cover?

We work UK-wide, with teams across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. If we are not the right firm for your location we will tell you rather than waste your time.

How much does rendering cost?

It is priced by the square metre and depends on the system, the condition of the walls and access. Our guide-price tool gives an indicative range in about a minute, and the survey turns that into a fixed written quote.
