External Wall Insulation in Norfolk
EWI systems that insulate solid walls externally and finish them in a warranted render topcoat.
Norfolk property owners come to us for external wall insulation for one of two reasons: something has failed, or the house looks tired.
Across Norfolk, flint and brick cottages, Norfolk carrstone, thatch and coastal housing dominates, and lime render on flint and clunch, coastal exposure on the north Norfolk coast is what we are called out to most often. The area sees the driest county in England with cold easterly coastal exposure, which is the single biggest factor in how long any render lasts here.
Local factor. Flint walls need lime because the mortar does the work, not the stone — cement on flint causes the face to spall off in freezing weather.
Is external wall insulation right for a Norfolk property?
Choose EWI on solid-wall, no-fines or non-traditional construction where you want a genuine thermal upgrade rather than just a new finish.
That decision gets made at the survey, not on the phone. We will tell you plainly if a different system would serve the building better — including when a cheaper one would.

FAQs
External Wall Insulation in Norfolk — questions
Do I need planning permission for EWI?
Often not on a standard house, but you will if it is listed, in a conservation area, or if it alters the appearance significantly. We advise before starting.
How much does rendering cost?
It is priced by the square metre and depends on the system, the condition of the walls and access. Our guide-price tool gives an indicative range in about a minute, and the survey turns that into a fixed written quote.
Do you offer a guarantee?
Yes. Every job carries our workmanship guarantee, and where a full manufacturer-specified system is installed you also get the system warranty on top.
What time of year is best for rendering?
Spring through autumn is ideal. Render should not be applied in frost or in very hot direct sun, so winter work needs protection and settled conditions.
Can you render over existing render?
Sometimes, if the existing coat is completely sound and well-bonded. We hammer-test it first. Anything hollow has to come off, because covering failure just hides it.
Are you insured?
Yes — full public liability cover, and we can send the certificate before we start. We are happy to provide RAMS for commercial and contractor work.
